Introducing Shaemus 💚

I'm excited to share that the herd has now grown to 8 beautiful souls.I always say that Horses find us when the time is right, and often out of the blue. Our family adopted Sheamus in August when his person needed to find him his forever home. He’s a gentle soul and we all loved him as soon as we met him.

Here’s his story: He’s a Standardbred - the type of horse who races with the sulkies pulled behind. He was born in Sweden in 2001 (the same year we moved to the farm) with the name Graffiti. He bears a Swedish racing tattoo on his neck. He flew to Canada with his mother and had high prospects of becoming a racehorse as his parents were very successful.

Apparently while sowing his oats in a pasture, he kicked up his heels a little too much and injured a tendon on his back leg, to the point he couldn’t race. This was probably the best thing that could’ve happened to him - as the life of a racehorse is not easy. He was so good-natured that his trainer kept him around, taking him to Kentucky every winter with a group of 200 other racehorses. He got to walk the stable aisles and visit as he pleased!

One day, his expenses got to be too much and he left the racing world. He learned how to carry a rider and spent a number of years, we think, with one person. When he went to live with the woman we adopted him from, he learned barrel racing and showing. Now that he’s here with us, he’s living life simply as a Horse - rarely inside, grazing 24-7, and part of a tight knit family. He gets along well with everyone, and seems popular with the ladies. He’s quick to draw close to you, leaning in as close as you are comfortable with. He loves kids. It will be exciting to see what gifts Sheamus brings to those he partners up with here. The best word to describe him is ‘a gentleman’. Can’t wait for you to meet him.
